Fusion+ was a programme that worked with five schools from Belfast and Limavady. The programme was delivered using blended learning and workshops helped promote diversity, cultural awareness and build confidence.  It also helped provide a way for young people to connect during Covid-19, learn and have fun.

During the workshops, young people decided they wanted to create a platform to help raise awareness about issues that were important to them. Through discussions the group selected the themes of sectarianism, race, disability and mental well-being and wanted to use storytelling through animations. The young people were involved in all aspects of the animation, including story boarding, concept, name, and development of characters. Impact on participants was significant.

“The Fusion+ programme has given us the chance to enjoy chilled out conversations and create something we wouldn’t normally be able to do. We have been able to tell our story and hopefully people who watch the animations will realise that they can make a real difference to our communities that we live in”.

The Fusion+ group launched a series of four animations online on 25 March.

“Having watched Insights (series of 4 short animations), it is so refreshing to see Springboard Opportunities continuing to deliver a Good Relations focussed programme in spite of the challenging times and circumstances we find ourselves in. The work of the young people witnessed here is not only extremely professional, but more importantly, truly inspiring and thought provoking, really making us all think as to what difference we can make when working side by side – Well done!”
