Journeys Camp 2025 brought together young people from across Northern Ireland and Border Counties

The Journeys partnership Springboard Opportunities (lead partner), with Cavan and Monaghan Education Training Board, Roe Valley Residents Association and Creggan Enterprises hosted their annual Journeys Camp at the Share Discovery Village in Enniskillen this August. The Journeys programme is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Over 140 participants from the Journeys programme came together across two days for lively activities such as water sports, wall climbing and wellbeing workshops. The group were lucky to enjoy some of the warmest days of the year encouraging young people to get outdoors and move beyond their comfort zones to take part in the adrenaline inducing activities!

The participants were quick to build connections and form friendships with one another through a variety of games and youth-led activities, including the highly anticipated PowerUp Youth Panel. The panel gave young people the space to express key challenges facing them and their communities around the themes of Social Isolation and Fear of the Future. They even completed the session with a collective dance to bring each other closer.

At the youth panel one young person from the CMETB project in Monaghan commented,

I’ve never really talked to people from the north, I usually just stay with my own group, but today I’ve enjoyed talking to everyone. The amount of people my age on the same programme as me, dealing with similar issues, has given me a huge sense of community. It’s nice to feel like we all have a place in society.

The positive morale continued into the evening as the groups made their way down to the beach where they watched the sun set while taking part in a high energy drum circle. Young people connected each night by getting involved in entertaining quizzes, interactive board games and wind down time in the cinema rooms.

The Journeys Camp plays an important role in bringing young people together, strengthening connections, and building a shared sense of community year after year. The impact extends far beyond the camp itself, encouraging participants to carry its values and insights into their local communities.
